Ex. 8.1 Writing an Audio News Story 

[Reporter]: 15-year-old freshman was pronounced dead earlier today at Central Valley Memorial Hospital after failed attempts to revive him. Todd White was a basketball player at Central High School and collapsed while running during a practice game. [Also:] at the Western Governor’s Conference meeting in Salt Lake City, Grace Green the Secretary of the Interior announced a new 8-hundred-million dollar energy plan. The plan calls for a 5-year reduction in strip mining and an ease of the licensing of new nuclear power plants in order to reduce dependence on foreign oil and make America greener///

Ex. 8.2 Writing an Audio News Story

[Reporter]: Education Professor Elizabeth Billson died at the age of 58 after suffering from cancer for ten years. Billson had taught at this university for 36 years and was awarded the university’s “Outstanding Professor” award last year. She will be missed. [Also:] Last night two trucks collided on I-59 causing a traffic jam that blocked roads going both directions for approximately 45 minutes. Both of the drivers are unhurt but one truck which was refrigerated, lost at least ten thousand dollars worth of goods. Both drivers have been cited for speeding and reckless driving///
