'Time to stop dreaming'
At the 16th Annual Martin Luther King birthday breakfast that occurred this past Monday Cassandra Stroud Conover spoke to a crowd of around 320 people calling for action rather than a continuation of effortless dreams. This speech seems to have arrive at a most appropriate time since Lynchburg superintendent Scott Brabrand also spoke to a crowd of over 100 people at the Martin Luther King commemoration at First Baptist Church of South Lynchburg echoing Conover noting the astounding improvement of African American students over the past few years. 'Virginia AG to say same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional '
With the election of Terry McAuliffe for governor and Mark Herring for Attorney General, Virginia seems to be moving away from its usual conservative stance that has previously existed. Along with a shift in Virginia's political views, new Attorney General Mark R. Herring has announced that the state's ban against homosexual marriage is unconstitutional. Being a Democrat, Herring campaigned on same-sex marriage and his new lawsuit says Virginia's ban on gay marriage takes away fundamental constitutional rights. (Click here to read more)
'The toughest words to hear'
The Central Virginian has begun a new health series that will follow a 16 year old named Trey Pugh as he and his family go through the daily trials and struggles that come with his condition. In November of last year, Trey was diagnosed by doctors with Stage 2 testicular cancer. Trey first discovered this during a self-evaluation noting an unusual lump that hadn't previously been there.
